LOVED ONES: chapter one: The past

Gazing at the ceiling, imagining home, being brought back to reality by the feeling, that a small little hand was on mine. Turning my head I see her pretty little eyes popping out, staring hard at me, her lips twitch and she starts crying. Jolting to my feet, I rush for her barbie toy, once in her hand she stops crying and starts giggling, bending down gently I sit beside her, patting her cheeks tenderly. Looking at her giggling, tossing her barbie up and down, made me take a stroll down memory lane again, it was amazing we survived this long, stopping suddenly I noticed she was looking at me, her lips twitched suddenly realizing what was about to happen, I lay down with my arms outstretched, moving gently she lays on my arm and looks at me expectantly, turning, I place my other arm over her, she giggles bringing smiles to my face. I love her but once she had clocked a year, she became much work, she never let's me out of her sight, cries whenever there is a girl and also when am lost in thought or stressed, though she never cries because of food, closing my eyes, I fall asleep. Loud banging on the door jerks me from sleep, looking at her, she was still asleep. Easing her gently from my arm, I head for the door, opening the locks the door comes ajar, the light was blinding and I felt fuzzy. My eyes blending in, I begin to notice the features of the figure standing ahead, it was the landlord's daughter, jane. Realizing who, I quickly greeted her, moving aside to let her in. She steps in, jane looks around in disdain, her eyes resting on the baby. Turning to me, she asks rhetorically; seems princess is still asleep?, anyway my clothes, my room is dirty, and want to have some friends over, guess you would have to clean it up before going to work, looking at her watch, its 6.30am and work starts by 9.00am, you better hurry. 'What! Was the only word and recovery I could make, calming down i continue; I can't, jane, have to buy princess's baby food and what happened to the maid, aren't they meant to do those stuff for you besides No, jane. Jane laughs, a devilish grin forming; so should I let child services know of sibyl?, is that a look of resignation on your face, micheal? So get it done right away. Walking away, she stops suddenly, sighing! Diamond asked about you. Already stressed out, the cleaning, tidying and washing had taken almost all morning. I reached the shop late, opening the door walking in silently thinking of what to tell the manager, this had being my fifth time ...... This month. Reaching the manager's door, I paused my hand trembling as I turned the door knob. The door gives way, and I step into the office. The manager and another man stopping their conversation upon my intrusion. I had planned the whole apology and rehearsed it in my head but once in the office, I was just mumbling incoherent sentences. The manager stands up, smiles at me and bids his guest goodbye, the guest standing, nods at the manager and then facing me offered his hand for a shake. Looking at his dressing, am taken aback, my facial expression changes, stretching my hand I receive the shake the man smiles and walks out of the office. The manager grunts, sitting down, and after a long awkward silence finally asks me if I knew the man, that the man had being investigating the establishment, anyway you should get back to work. Leaving the office I rush out the shop, breathing heavily I shuffle through the crowd. Glancing around I see the man waving down a taxi, and I rush towards him. The man sighs! He could still hear the boy panting inches away from him, he had seen the boy rush out of the shop in search of him as he had expected grinning he says; took you long enough, boy. Catching my breath, the dreaded words slid out of my mouth, it felt like as if I was asking to be shot; who are you, where are you from, what do you want? These were questions I already knew the answer to. The man looks at me pitifully and nods; yes, kid am from the marquees family, they are looking for you don't know why, frowning; he stares hard at me, wondering why the marquees had hired him to look for this kid, no one would believe that's the said kid was working to earn a pay at a meager establishment. with that, he flags down a taxi, enters and leave. I stood dumbfounded, my eyes on the taxi till it disappeared from view. Xparkling options
